Financial Aid Application Priority Deadline

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2022-2023 opened on October 1, 2021. You are encouraged to submit your financial aid application as early as possible but no later than June 30, 2022.

 

Maintain Your 21Forward Scholarship Eligibility

If you met the initial eligibility, you are now required to meet additional requirements to remain eligible. 

  • You must enroll in a minimum of six hours during the fall and spring semesters each academic year.  
  • You must be continuously enrolled each fall and spring. Summer is optional but you must be enroll in a minimum of six hours.
  • You must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as determined by financial aid at the end of each semester.
  • You must apply for financial aid each year and, if required, complete the verification process.

 

 

What's Covered

  • The scholarship opportunity ends in fall 2024 or once you reach 60 hours or earn an associate degree.
  • The College will pay for required developmental education hours for a maximum of two attempts per course. Developmental education courses will not count against the 60 total hours.
  • The scholarship is available for all terms in the fall and spring semesters, including three-week, four-week, eight-week, 13-week, 15-week, and 16-week courses. It is available in the summer terms starting in 2022.
  • Once you complete a certificate of technology, you may pursue the related AAS degree up to 60 hours.
  • Continuing education programs that result in a recognized credential are covered. This could include aerospace, IT, healthcare, maritime, truck driving or industrial trades with a maximum scholarship of $4,680.

 

What’s Not Covered

  • Summer 2021 tuition
  • The three-peat charges (a charge for repeating a course three times or more) 
  • Open Books Plus or hard copy books
  • Course materials, supplies, or uniforms
  • Two certificates of technology
  • Extra charges for moving out of district (if you move out of district after graduating high school, San Jac will pay for tuition equal to your in-district residency charges, and you will pay the difference for out-of-district charges)

 

Other Details

  • If you don’t complete the financial aid process before payment is due, you must either complete an Installment Payment Plan (IPP) at the Business Office or apply for a Registration Payment Deferment at the Financial Aid Office.
  • You are responsible for any amounts not covered by financial aid or the scholarship, such as books and equipment fees.
  • Funds are applied to your account in this order: state-mandated/optional waivers, veteran affairs, financial aid, third-party, and finally scholarships, including this one.
  • If you paid for your enrollment before the scholarship is applied, you may be eligible for a refund. Refunds will be issued through our standard process using Bank Mobile.

    Requirements

     You must have graduated from high school during the 2020-21 academic year. This includes graduates from fall 2020 through summer 2021.

     You must started classes at San Jac in fall 2021. This includes classes that start in Sept. and Oct.

     You must apply for financial aid annually and, if required, must complete the verification process.

     You must have lived in the San Jac’s taxing district when you graduated. To check if you live in the taxing district, visit the Harris County website. The taxing district is generally comprised of the six school districts, listed below. Homeschool, private school, and GED graduates are eligible. A student living in our taxing district at the time of graduation that attended another school outside of the San Jacinto College district is also eligible.

    • Deer Park ISD
    • Galena Park ISD
    • La Porte ISD
    • Pasadena ISD
    • Sheldon ISD

     

    Dual Credit Student Eligibility

    Former dual credit students must meet these criteria:

    • Graduated from high school during the 2020-2021 academic year.
    • Live in San Jac's taxing district
    • You must apply for financial aid each year and, if required, must complete the verification process.

    Dual credit students who have earned an Associate of Arts degree may use the scholarship to pursue a certificate, an Associate of Applied Science degree, or an eligible secondary associate degree (up to 45 hours).

     

    Continuing Eligibility

    Once you've enrolled, here's how to remain eligible for the next semester:

    • We will confirm your continued eligibility at the end of each semester of enrollment. We will notify you by email if you are no longer eligible for the scholarship.
    • You must enroll in a minimum of six hours during the fall and spring semesters each academic year.  
    • You must be continuously enrolled each fall and spring. Summer is optional.
    • You must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as determined by financial aid at the end of each semester.
    • You must apply for financial aid each year, if required, must complete the verification process.

     

    Appeal Process

    If you are not able to enroll in a minimum of six hours during the fall and/or spring semesters, you must submit an appeal to maintain your eligibility. 

    • The appeal must be submitted prior to the start of the semester for which you are not able to maintain the enrollment requirement to receive payment for that semester.   
    • If you are enrolled in classes that have a starting date later in the semester, you must appeal prior to start of those classes.
    • Contact the Financial Aid Office to complete an appeal.

    If you are not able to meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements, you must appeal at the end of the semester for which you were not able to maintain the SAP requirements. 

    • The appeal must be submitted prior to the appeal deadline of the semester for which you want to have your eligibility reinstated.
    • Contact the Financial Aid Office to complete an appeal.

    If you were not able to continuously enroll each fall and spring (you skipped one semester other than summer), you must submit an appeal to regain your eligibility.

    • The appeal must be submitted prior to the start of the semester you return.   
    • If you are enrolled in classes that have a starting date later in the semester, you must appeal prior to start of those classes.
    • Contact the Financial Aid Office to complete an appeal.
