Promise @ San Jac Requirements

The Promise @ San Jac program has been developed for students who live in the SJC taxing district at the time of high school graduation.  These funds are intended to cover in-district tuition, books, and required supplies for a 3-year period for full-time attendance at SJC.

 

  • Graduate from an in-district high school during the 2022-2023 academic school year.
  • Most students will be graduating from one these in-district high schools:
    • Channelview ISD
      • Channelview High School
      • Endeavor Alternative School
    • Deer Park ISD
      • Deer Park High School
    • Galena Park ISD
      • Galena Park High School
      • North Shore High School
      • Early College High School
    • LaPorte ISD
      • LaPorte High School
      • Viola DeWalt High School
    • Pasadena ISD
      • Dr. Kirk Lewis Career & Technical High School
      • Dobie High School
      • Pasadena High School
      • Pasadena Memorial High School
      • Sam Rayburn High School
      • South Houston High School
      • Tegeler Career Center
    • Sheldon ISD
      • CE King High School
  • Portions of Clear Creek ISD that are in the San Jac taxing district. Please check your address on the Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) to confirm. 
  • Private school and homeschool students with a high school graduation in the 2022-2023 academic school year, and who live in the SJC taxing district at the time of graduation are eligible.
  • Students must have been enrolled at their in-district high school or, for private and home school students, have lived in the district by October 1, 2022.
  • Students must meet all Promise deadlines:
    • February 16, 2023 – Complete the Promise Pledge and Apply to San Jacinto College.
    • April 20, 2023 - Complete and submit a FAFSA or TASFA.
    • July 13, 2023 – Complete all enrollment steps (including any financial aid verification) and register for classes.
  • Students must accept all gift aid for which they are eligible, including Pell and state grants. San Jacinto College must be the designated higher education institution on the FAFSA or TASFA application. Promise funding is awarded last-dollar, after all other grant funding is applied.
  • Dual Credit students who have graduated from high school between December 1, 2022, and August 15, 2023, and who have not completed a degree at San Jac, may use Promise funds to complete their Associate Degree.
  • Dual credit students who have graduated from high school between December 1, 2022, and August 15, 2023, and who have completed studies at San Jac with a certificate may use the scholarship to pursue an associate degree.
  • There are no initial GPA or income requirements to be eligible for the scholarship.

 

  • Students must be continuously enrolled each Fall and Spring for 12 credit hours; Summer is optional.
    • If taking summer classes, student must enroll in at least 6 credit hours.
  • Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester beginning their 2nd semester.
  • Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as determined by Financial Aid at the end of each semester to maintain the scholarship.  This generally means maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 and passing a minimum of 75 percent of all hours attempted.
  • Continued eligibility will be confirmed at the end of each semester of enrollment. Students will be notified by email if they are no longer eligible to receive the scholarship.
  • Students must check-in with their advisor or success coach, at minimum, once per semester. To schedule an appointment, connect with us.
  • Students must apply for Financial Aid annually by May 5, 2023 to continue eligibility and, if required, must complete the verification process.
  • After the first semester of enrollment, students must register for the Spring semester by December 1, 2022 and the Fall semester by July 5, 2024.

An appeal process is available to address concerns missing any of the following deadlines:

  • February 16, 2023 – Complete the Promise Pledge and Apply to San Jacinto College.
  • April 20, 2023 - Complete and submit a FAFSA or TASFA.
  • July 13, 2023 – Complete all enrollment steps (including any financial aid verification) and register for classes.
