My San Jac GPS FAQs

General My San Jac GPS Questions

My San Jac GPS is a web-based planning tool to help students and staff monitor students’ progress toward degree completion. It will show you the courses needed to earn a degree or certificate. My San Jac GPS is not a substitution for meeting with an admissions advisor or educational planner.

The system allows students to:

  • Determine what requirements you need to fulfill in order to complete your degree.
  • View individual course grades and grade point average (GPA).
  • Determine which courses you have taken or transferred, and which ones count as electives.
  • View transfer credits, waivers, and exemptions applied toward degree.
  • See how your coursework could be applied toward another major using the "What If" option.
  • Estimate how many semesters it will take you to graduate.
  • Learn the prerequisites and co-requisites for courses by clicking on the course numbers.

San Jac GPS pulls in information from your current student record(s). If you find that any of this information is incorrect, please contact Educational Planning, Counseling, and Completion office (EPCC).

The catalog year determines which catalog/degree requirements students follow to obtain a degree or certificate. Some program requirements change from year to year.

Your Worksheet will display completed courses (including transfer courses), courses in progress, and courses still required to complete your degree or certificate. If a course is repeated, only the course completed with the highest grade counts toward degree requirements. The course completed with the lower grade will show to be excluded and it will not count for, nor should it pull into the areas in the evaluation. In the case where the same grade is earned on a repeated course, the latest attempt will be excluded. Courses from which you have withdrawn will appear in the Not Applied block on your Worksheet. The Worksheet is not an official transcript. It is an unofficial audit of your coursework, as well as a guide to help you reach your ultimate goal of graduation.

My San Jac GPS is programmed to help determine where to place courses. As you take more courses, you may notice that certain courses move into different categories. My San Jac GPS will move the classes to the most appropriate fit as you complete them. There may be instances where a course fulfills a requirement in the wrong place.  If this happens, the system will adjust once you complete the course that will satisfy that requirement. If you have additional questions, contact Educational Planning, Counseling, and Completion.

Yes.  If you have requested a transcript evaluation and it is complete, all transfer courses that satisfy degree requirements will be on your My San Jac GPS worksheet. If your transcript has been evaluated and you notice that your transfer work is not pulling in it could be one of three reasons:

  1. The course content and student learning outcomes were not equivalent.
  2. The course did not meet either the minimum number of credits and/or minimum grade requirement for use in your program.
  3. All requirements have been met and this course is not needed.

Any petition, waiver, or substitution should be initiated by a student to the department chair. After a course substitution request is made by the department chair, it must be approved by the Dean and Provost. All approved course substitution documentation is routed to the Educational Planning, Counseling, and Completion office to be processed. Once it is processed, the student will be contacted by an educational planner and it will be viewable in the My San Jac GPS worksheet.

No. My San Jac GPS is a snapshot of your current registration and academic history. Registration and drop/add are still handled through the registration system in S.O.S.

You will visit with the Educational Planning, Counseling, and Completion office to review your Worksheet. If you preliminarily meet the conditions, which include meeting the minimum GPA requirement, residency requirement, and specified coursework you will fill out a graduation application. At the end of the final semester of coursework, a final audit will be completed to determine if you are eligible to receive your degree or certificate. Any missing requirements will be communicated to you by the Educational Planning, Counseling, and Completion office.

In My San Jac GPS, select the “Plans” tab. If you have multiple saved plans they will appear in a list. Click on the plan you would like to view. If you have selected the plan, it will be highlighted in blue. Under the “View” drop down menu, you will select “Audit”. This will show you a copy of your Worksheet along with the suggested plan. At this time, you are not able to make any changes to your saved plan. If you have questions about the courses on your plan, contact Educational Planning, Counseling, and Completion.

The What-If feature allows you to hypothetically change your program or major. Your new What-If evaluation will show you what coursework is required for the new program, what courses you have taken that satisfy requirements, and what courses are still left for you to take. This tool is for information purposes only. What If scenarios are not saved in My San Jac GPS. Run a new What If scenario the next time you log in to see it again. If you decide to change your major, you will need to visit the Educational Planning, Counseling, and Completion office.
