If you work well under pressure, consider working in hands-on patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment. Essential surgical technologists assist surgeons and work with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other hospital staff to care for patients during surgery.

The AAS degree allows you to take the national CST certification exam for immediate surgical technologist employment opportunities. You’ll also earn credits toward a higher degree.

Accreditation

The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Upon receiving the AAS degree, the graduate is eligible to take the National Certification exam by the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants. The state of Texas requires all surgical technologists to be certified.

Information Sessions

All Surgical Technology Information Sessions are held via Zoom. Students are required to pre- register for the session prior to joining the meeting. After registering for the session, an email will be sent with the meeting details (link and passcode). All information sessions are recorded and tracked for attendance purposes. Pre-registration for the session will not substitute for attendance. All students who apply to the Surgical Technology Program MUST attend one of the sessions prior to applying. Applicants who have not attended the mandatory information session will not be considered for acceptance.
