Tyler Olivier – Chair
University of Louisiana, Lafayette
Dr. Tyler Olivier is Department Chair for STEM and a professor of biology. He’s been with San Jacinto College since 2015. When asked to introduce his classes and an interesting fact about himself he said: “Biology is one of those subjects that people tend to shy away from or be fearful of, so I try to make the topics applicable to my students’ everyday lives (I mean, it is the study of life). I try to include everyone and make the learning environment welcoming to all ideas. Students often find it interesting that I played college football and won a National Championship (LSU 2003-2004). What excites me most about opening a new campus is the challenge of starting the STEM Department. In addition to the challenge of starting a new department, I’m also excited about interaction with a new group of students, faculty, and staff.”
