General Resources to Keep You and the Kids Learning at Home.

  • Houston/Harris County Healthy Living Matters has assembled a library of resources for children to learn and keep physically active during shelter-at-home. 
  • Learn as a Family. Parents launch a new career! The new San Jacinto College EDGE Center offers pathways to exciting careers in aerospace and other industries, including tracks in mechatronics, manufacturing, composites, mechanical, quality, and electrical.

Learn about the exciting careers and educational opportunities in engineering!
Campers will experience a full day behind the scenes at Space Center Houston, lots of hands-on team activities, lab experiments, develop critical thinking skills, SAT math prep, and more. Designed for ages 14-18, this summer experience will give students an inside look at the STEM opportunities that await them while having fun and making new friends.

  • Khan Academy Free online platform with exercises and instructional videos for grades pre-K-12.  All Khan Academy content is available for free.
  • PBS Kids. Newsletter with activities and games.
  • KERA At-Home Learning. PBS affiliate station KERA is providing free educational resources to assist families with school-aged children learning at home during COVID-19.
  • Bookshare. E-library for children with dyslexia, blindness, and other reading barriers.
  • Storyline. Popular celebrities read children's books.
  • Writers in Schools. QuickWits will assist your children in grades K through 5 in not only writing creatively, but also giving them things to reflect on and think about. These free 15-minute videos will aid your child in expanding their writing as well as their thoughtfulness on a variety of subjects.
  • Texas Reality Check. Texas Workforce Commission teaches students about budgeting skills and career exploration.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Learning Opportunities

Try these hands-on science activities from Science Buddies:

  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Tour marine sanctuaries and ocean habitats with a collection of virtual dives that can be seen on a personal computer or a smartphone. Explore a shipwreck, colorful coral reefs, or swim with seals.
  • Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute Resources introduce students to the impacts of climate change on marine habitats; explain the adaptations of animals that live in the deep sea; and present the challenges faced by ecosystems invaded by nonnative species, such as the so-called zombie shrimp.
