For students with disabilities, ages 14 to 22
Explore Apprenticeships 2.0 is a semester-long program from March-June 2022. Participating students will learn about a variety of career fields, apprenticeships, and San Jacinto College programs. The program will also feature hands-on experiences and field trips to places like NASA, Port of Houston, and the Texas Carpenters and Millwrights Center among others.
Goal: Overall program overview and orientation.
Week 1: Program Overview & Orientation
Day 1 (In-person) - Central Campus (8060 Spencer Hwy., Pasadena, TX 77505) - March 26 -C1-102

*Students will receive hard copies of the class schedule; instructions for online log-in and program expectations. Students will also receive the t-shirts that are to be worn on Saturdays for the in-person sessions.
*Explanation of homework expectations: Students are expected to do homework that will be reviewed by instructors throughout the week (2 additional hours).
*Note: Student drop-off for Saturdays in-person sessions will be at San Jacinto Central Campus- 8060 Spencer Hway, Building C1. Pasadena Texas, Point person: Dr. Janice Sullivan, Dean of Community Engagement.
Goal: Participants will be exposed to IT programs such as game design and programming, simulation, level design, engine development, tool building, and multimedia programming (approximately 15 minutes per occupation)
Week 2: IT Technology
Day 2 (4 hours Online) - 2 hours on March 29, 2022 and 2 hours homework

Activity in Industry related field: Visit to Science & Engineering Building - South Campus
- Visit to IT labs including areas of game design and programming, simulation, level design, engine development, tool building, and multimedia programming. During the IT labs, students will observe, learn via instruction, and hands-on as appropiate.

- Part 2 of career coaching/advise for IT career pathways.
Day 5 (In Person) - Bus Drop off & Pick up @ Central Campus - April 9, 2022 (9am - 3pm)
Activity in Industry related field: Visit to Edge Center
- Actvity in robotics.
Goal: Partcipants will be exposed to high-tech STEM careers and gained a better understaning of this fastest growing industry in the nation. From engineering to technology, participants will be exposed to knowledge, field trips and industry hands on experiences in areas such as environmental science, biotechnology, chemistry, pharmacy tech and health care (approximately 15 minutes per occupation).
Week 4: STEM Focus: Health Care

- Experiences at pharmacy tech labs, nursing and engineering. During the health care lab visits, students will observe, learn via instruction, and hands-on as appropiate.

Goals: Participants will be exposed to different construction and trades related programs including HVAC, both residential and commercial; construction management technology: pipefitting, welding technology and a variety of aspects of commercial and industrial planning.

- Partipants will experience HVAC, Welding and pipefitting tours at Central Campus

Goal: Participants will be exposed to jobs, careers and pre- aprencticeships in highway design, transportation of people and cargo, inter-modal operations, laws, regulations, safety, and career opportunities. In addition, we include enrichment activities designed to increase skill levels, such as computer training, field trips, and experimental projects.

Activity on Transportation Industry Field - Port of Houston Rail Tour (Due to Covid; Port of Houston closed)
- Facility Tour: Port of Houston Railroad tour will provide the students with the knowledge of how rail systems are constructed and what considerations need to be made in that construction.
- Overview of the planning that goes into the scheduling of trains and the technology used.
Goal: Participants will learn about aerospace training and careers in the aerospace industry. San Jacinto College is the official education training partner for the Houston Spaceport at Ellington Airport, launching the San Jacinto College EDGE Center aerospace program to offer the following training programs such as Aerospace Quality Technician and Mechatronics and Industrial Automation Technician.

Activity on Aersopace Industry Field Field Visit to Space Center Houston
- Guided tour that represents career paths and opportnuities in the aerospace industry. The participants will be hosted for the day at Space Center Houston where they will tour NASA buildings. Visit the Boeing 7474 where they will learn about the aspects of flight - lift, propulsion, design of vehicles.
Goal: Participants will learn about Maritime training and deck-level programs. From entry-level deckhands on an inland towboat to Unlimited Tonnage Masters on the world's largest ships. San Jacinto College courses are United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved and Standards for Training.
Week 12: Maritime Industry
