Successful companies will not only search for the best new-hires but will also investigate ways to “upskill” their incumbent workers to meet ever changing business needs. But, maintaining a skilled and educated workforce can be a challenge for any company as in-house training budgets are oftentimes the first area to be reduced during cost reduction programs. “Designed by industry, for industry”, the LyondellBasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy, & Technology (CPET) is strategically positioned to “flange" with the petrochemical industry providing a superior learning experience for a competitive price.
CPET can work with you to develop a customized training program to meet your company’s needs in areas such as:

Payment Options
CPET is pleased to offer our clients a variety of payment options. Questions: Contact Clarissa Belbas, 281-476-1894.
- Self-pay with a credit card
-
If you are selecting a course and intend to pay directly with your own or a company credit card, you can use the registration links provided to select the course, create your student account, and pay directly with a credit card.
During the checkout process, you will need to create a San Jacinto College account which will generate for you a unique SJC Student identification number (G#). Write this down as you will need to remember it for all transactions with SJC.
- Third party pay via PO, check, or other method
-
Frequently, a student's employer is paying for the course and prefers to pay using a method other than a credit card. In this scenario, the following procedure should be followed.
- The student or employer should provide student information so the student(s) can be registered in the course. A spreadsheet for logging the student information is provided here.
- The student or employer will need to provide a company letter stating that the company agrees to pay the tuition. The letter should also state the preferred method of payment (i.e.: PO, check, etc.) and contact information for payment arrangements. A sample company voucher letter is provided here.
- NOTE: The voucher letter will need to be submitted within 24 hours of registering for the course, or the registration system will automatically un-enroll the student due to nonpayment.
- CPET will register the student(s) and submit the registration information and company voucher letter to the SJC Business Office.
- The SJC Business Office will coordinate directly with the company to arrange payment.
- Contract
-
Many companies will contract with CPET for custom courses developed in collaboration between the company and CPET. For this scenario, CPET will provide a contract template to begin the process of drafting the course details.
- Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) - Skills Development Fund (SDF)
-
What is the TWC Skills Development Fund? The TWC (SDF) plays a vital roe in providing training statewide to meet the growing demand for a skilled and trained workforce. Partnering with private companies (referred to as "private partners"), TWC will award grant money to be used at community colleges to meet specific training needs. Private partners and the individuals selected for training in the program must meet eligibility criteria which are summarized in the presentation in bullet #1 below. The program will grant an average of $1800/trainee for a total company cap of $500,000 although multiple companies can collaborate in a "consortium" to pool trainees into classes that meet shared needs. The training must satisfy a criteria of at least 55% business technical (i.e.: Operations Troubleshooting) and no more than 10% on non-technical training (i.e.: Leadership Skills) with the remaining amount available for general technical (i.e.: Fire Safety, Intro to Word). The grant can include delivery of proprietary training (although no more than 50%). Important point to consider: a company can only participate in one TWC grant at a time and is ineligible for an additional grant for one year after completion of the first grant.
What are the company's obligations to participate in this grant fund? First, the company must meet the eligibility criteria and develop, in coordination with SJC, a training plan of specific training to be delivered to specific people, on a planned schedule. Second, if the company does not send the trainees to the agreed training, the company will be charged a pro-rated cost per student. Third, companies agree to retain the trained employee for at least 90 days after that employee completes training.

- Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) - Skills Development Fund (SDF) - "SHELL" grant
-
2021 TWC "Shell" Skills Development Fund - Recent changes in the TWC contract process may lead to a more streamlined contracting process. Companies still complete the same paperwork but are no longer required to have a year-long training plan. Instead the paperwork can be completed for one training courses allowing for quicker turnaround on development and approval. This new process, referred to as a "shell" grant, can be developed and delivered rapidly and is outlined below.
- Company completes and submits PPIF form.
- Company and SJC complete a draft training plan which is submitted to TWC to be signed.
- Company can return for additional training as needed with minimal revisions to the paperwork.

Most of our training is offered as custom-designed courses delivered directly to a client; however, CPET also offers a selection of continuing education courses available as open enrollment for the public. The data below is updated for every semester, so check back here often.
Linked Courses
The courses listed below are "linked" courses which link a continuing education (CE) trainee into a credit course. The CE student attends the same class as the credit students and completes the same work. However, upon completion, the trainee receives continuing education credits (CEUs) instead of academic credits. Linked courses provide CE students an opportunity to access the same learning without the necessity of being registered as an academic student pursuing a degree. (If you are interested in taking a course for academic credit instead of continuing education credits, then visit Course Finder to search all available courses.)
